Gingerbead Baby: Science Common Core

Hello Everyone!

Let me begin by saying......  6 MORE DAYS until Christmas Break! Hallelujah! I know everyone is counting down the days just like I am :)

Yesterday I had a wonderful opportunity to allow a parent to come and teach a science lesson.

She got to come and work with my students and try out a science lesson that will correlate with the new CCSS Science standards.  She made the ALCO: Motion and Stability standard a joy to learn.  We had such a wonderful time designing a house for the Gingerbread Baby.  In the story The Gingerbread Baby, Matti is trying to capture the gingerbread baby that has escaped from the oven.

Here was the challenge:

Matti needs help designing a secure house that will hold the gingerbread baby inside and prevent him from escaping again.  Your design must hold the gingerbread baby INSIDE. You can only use the materials given inside the bag. Draw a plan with your partner, create it and test it.

As you can see from the pictures this lesson was a hit!  Thank you so much, Holly.  We really enjoyed your lesson.

Jolly has arrived.
Here he is! Jolly, the new man in the classroom.  My class voted for the name :) We had such a fun time with Jolly arriving.  I had our custodians,  (BTW they are the best ever) knock on my door and let me know I had a package... my class was convinced it was our book order that we have been waiting for.  NOPE, it was our package, FREEZING COLD ALL THE WAY FROM THE NORTHPOLE.  I had the package in the freezer all morning waiting the arrival :)  I am so anxious to get the fun of the next two weeks started :)

Today we are Pilgrims

Today in Kindergarten we focused on.. PILGRIMS.  I have to say not only to the students have a really good time but I did too! I love seeing my class have so much fun and not even realize they are learning.  I like said in my last post it is our review week so we reviewed nouns today, and I related all of our pilgrim information into the lesson! We also made our own butter like the pilgrims! It "CHURNED" out great! The boys and girls LOVED it.  (The hat patterns are located in my TPT store)  Hope y'all are enjoying about the first Thanksgivings as much as we are!

We're Going on a Leaf Hunt

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited that this week is a review week in my classroom.  We FINALLY had some time to catch up on different lessons.  One of my new favorite lessons is the LEAF HUNT!  I really wanted to do this a couple weeks ago when we were focusing on adjectives for the first time but, all I can say is that today was SO much fun. The weather was wonderful.  We started off by reading We're going on a Leaf Hunt By, Steve Metzger.  We continue our lesson by going outside where each child found one leaf.  I gave them plenty of time to look for the perfect one.  I told them beforehand that their job was going to be to describe this leaf to me, and they LOVED it!!  When we came back in I gave each child a Post-It note, they had to write one word on their Post-It and we then went around the room describing our leaves. Then we finished up with a small activity that was placed in our science folders!  Talk about fun, we got to enjoy this awesome fall Alabama weather,  review adjectives, and do a little science all at the same time!

Take a look further into our leaf hunt:

Happy Blogging :)

"Tell me I forget, Teach me and I will remember, INVOLVE me and I will LEARN".

I am so excited to have started my blog, FINALLY.  It has been a busy couple months BUT I have really learned a lot.  This really has turned into a second career, but I guess you can call me a lifetime learner.. is it weird I REALLY ENJOY taking the time to continue learning from others which will make my classroom a better place?   Hopefully I can help other teachers the same way others have helped me.

So this past week we have spent a lot of time focusing on patterns around our classroom, I created a fun way to incorporate patterns and sight words together in my classroom.  My kinder babies did an amazing job and loved it at the same time... It was very simple yet, very fun!

I am very excited to get starting blogging and I hope you enjoy following my blog!
